Early Years
Children are assessed at the start and end of reception. The results of the assessment at the start of reception are not shared with schools or parents but go directly to the DfE. The end of year assessment is called the ‘Early Years Statutory Profile’ and outcomes are shared with parents. Children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals, which are:

Phonics
Children in Y1 are assessed and must read 40 words (some real and some pseudo) using the phonics they have learnt. To meet the standard, children must be able to read 32 of the 40 words.

If children did not meet the standard in Y1 or joined the school after the test those children take the test in Y2.
Y4 Multiplication Check
Children in Y4 are assessed, online against the clock, in knowing 25 multiplication and division facts. Children receive a mark out of 25. Schools are assessed in terms of the average score of the cohort and how many children scored full marks.

Y6 SATs
Children in Y6 are tested, using DfE materials, in reading, writing and maths as well as spelling, grammar and punctuation. Tests are formal and are marked externally. Results are compared to an ‘expected’ and ‘greater depth’ standard.
