Late/Absence Procedures
Holidays & Absence
Regular school attendance is the right of all children.
If however, your child is unwell, for example if they have a stomach upset they should remain at home until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness/ diarrhoea.
To report your child’s absence please telephone the school office on 01743 718462.
If school have not received a telephone call to explain why a child is absent then school will attempt to make contact with the parents/carers. If there is no response, school may ask the Educational Welfare Officer to visit the home or ask the Police to conduct a wellness check on the family.
The Department for Education (DfE) request that reasons for all absences must be recorded and the findings included in statistics. It is essential therefore that the class teacher is aware of the reason for every absence. If your child has to attend an emergency doctor or dental appointment within the school day you must inform school.
Lateness
If children arrive after 8.55am they should report to the main office so that their names can be entered on the register.
Holidays in Term Time
Please note that, if you request a term time holiday it will not be authorised. Headteachers are only allowed to authorise a leave of absence when an application has been made in advance, and it is felt to be for an exceptional circumstance. A family holiday is not deemed an exceptional circumstance.
Educational Welfare Officer (EWO)
An EWO visits the school half termly to audit registers. School attendance is a legal requirement as is the recording of attendance in registers. The school and EWO will work with the families of children who have poor attendance (below 95%) or repeated lateness.
