School Council

We have an active School Council at St Edward’s CE Primary School. Our School Council consists of a team of dedicated and well organised children.

Elections are held in September and representatives are elected in a fair and democratic way. Children who choose to stand for election, make a brief speech or presentation to their class and then the children vote for the person they would like to represent each year group.

The School Council meet with a variety of stakeholders including Mrs Lewis and members of the Local Academy Board but meet regularly with Mr Wilson to discuss a variety of school issues. These meetings ensure that pupils have a voice and are involved in decisions about their school.

School development is discussed first in class, led by their elected councillor and then the class’ views are discussed further at school council meetings.

Recent decisions from the School Council concerned matters such as school meals, sport equipment and litter picking across the wider community. Their thoughts are also gathered to inform things like school policies and the home school agreement.

In the past the School Council have raised money to purchase playground equipment, for local and national charities and chosen themes for non-uniform days.
