Worship Committee

We have a Worship Committee made up of children from Year 1 to Year 6 who meet regularly and help plan, lead and suggest ideas for our daily acts of worship. They lead Wednesday whole school Worship in the hall and love to get other children involved. They also take on the role of welcoming children into worship, lighting the candles, praying and organising the worship songs.

The Worship Committee also lead a Courageous Advocacy project and this year’s focus has been on giving children different ideas on how to worship in church using a Busy Book which they have developed for use in church as well as collecting toothpaste and toothbrushes for the local foodbank to add to their food parcels each week.

They have also been investigating how children’s voice can be used in the local community and have linked up with a Shropshire Councillor Dan Morris to find out more about the role of the council in the area and how children can have a voice within the council. Two of our children attended a council meeting in July to ask the question in person to the council.

See below for Article on this visit;

6.7.23 - Visit to Shropshire County Council Meeting by Condover and St Edwards Worship Committee representatives Laura and Frank.

When we arrived, we were greeted by Amanda who told us about what to expect at the meeting. We then went upstairs and met Vince Hunt, who was going to chair the meeting. We took a picture with him, and he wished us good luck.

Before entering the meeting, we met Kirstie Hurst-Knight, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Education. The meeting began with previous minutes and ours was the second question we asked: How are you promoting Children’s voice within Shropshire Council? Kirstie answered our question and talked about care for children in our country. She explained how children had been consulted so far for plans for giving them a greater voice in the future.

We then listened to other people’s questions. After listening to the questions and answers we left the meeting room. Kirstie met us outside and had asked us if we understood her answer. We talked for a bit longer and discussed the possibility of her visiting us at school to consult further on children’s voice.

As a committee they are co-ordinating events that raise money for the Sunshine for Children’s charity - Omushana. This charity equips libraries with resources for local communities within the Barundi district of Uganda.

The Worship Committee are establishing a school prayer box where children can write their own requests for prayer and they are collected in. Then they are taken to the local church where the congregation or clergy pray over them.  We are hoping to place one in St Edward’s Church too, so that we can pray for the local congregation in return.

The Worship Committee are developing a Worship book that reflects the ‘Our Wonderful Worship’ within our school community. This will show the church services and worship in our school building that takes place. Keep posted for more information on this exciting book!

Our final Wednesday Worship this term will be a ‘Muddy Church’. The Worship committee enjoy organising one Muddy Church each term. These are always well received by the other children!
